Three interesting facts about Pacific Halibut that are strange but true:
1 - all halibut are born male, some eventually turn female as they reach maturity, around 45 inches in length.
2 - halibut are able to eat a large variety of fish: cod, turbot, and pollock are common prey. Halibut also eat invertebrates including octopus, crab and prawns. Here is the interesting one, halibut have also been known to eat seals!
3 - The oldest recorded female and male halibut were 55 years old, I wonder how they light all those candles underwater?
